Free Practice:
In the free practice session once again the Kaufmann Drivers had
been able to show a strong performance directly from the beginning
on. After the two free practice sessions, it was Oscar Tunjo on P 9,
Mathieu Jaminet on an impressive P 3 and Robin Frijns once more was
the fastest man of the 38 car field and he had set the fastest
overall free practice laptime.
Qualifying 1:
Again, as Qualifying was split into two groups it was Robin Frijns
and Mathieu Jaminet in Group A. A difficult Qualifying with many
yellow flag sequences finally only allowed one flying lap to the
Kaufmann Drivers. Frijns ended up on P 3 and Jaminet behind him on P
4.
Oscar Tunjo in
Group B also had a difficult Qualifying. As there even was a red
flag sequence, Qualifying was a real gamble. Tunjo finally had set
the a laptime which had put him on P 4.
For the Race 1 the
starting grid was: Frijns - P 6, Tunjo - P 7, Jaminet - P 8.
Race 1: All
Kaufmann Drivers catched a good start and first kept their
positions. It was Oscar Tunjo who first had contact with another
driver during the race bending his front wing. The young Colombian
dropped back the order because of that and stopped one lap to the
end of the race. Mathieu Jaminet drove a constant race with good
laptimes finishing on P 10 in the end.
Robin Frijns kept
his position at the start and during the race moved up the
positions. Lap by lap the young Dutch set fast laptimes und moved up
to P 3 untill the final lap. Unfortunately in the last lap he
couldnīt defend his position anymore and dropped back to P4 .
Qualifying 2:
In the Qualifying for the race on Sunday it was first Oscar Tunjo on
the track. The young Colombian didnīt had a good Qualifying ending
up in the gravel trap, which was P 19 in his group.
Frijns and Jaminet
went out in Group A again. Jaminet didnīt found a really fast lap
and only was P 10 in his group. Robin Frijns did a good Qualfying
ending up on P 3 in his group.
Overall starting
positions for Race 2: Frijns - P 5, Jaminet - P 19, Tunjo - P 38.
Race 2: At
the start to the race on Sunday, Oscar Tunjo directly was able to
move up the positions to P 25. Then during the race, like the day
before he once again damaged his front wing and was unfortunately
only able to finish the race on P 29. Mathieu Jaminet as well had a
hard race with some contacts. Also his car was damaged a little and
the young French was not able to run a clean race. He finished on P
25.
Robin Frijns had a
good start and was able to move up to P 4 in the second lap. After
that the yound Dutch showed an impressive pace and was closing up
the gap to the leading trio. After putting much pressure on the top
runners, Frijns had to pay tribute to the fast pace he went, as his
tyres couldnīt hold the speed anymore. In the final stage of the
race, Frijns unfortunately had droped back one position and finished
the race on P 5.
With this result,
Robin Frijns was the only Driver in this yearīs Formula Renault 2.0
Eurocup who finished all races in the Top 5. He scored an
outstanding number of 5 victories and a total of 9 podium finishes
and 1 Pole-Position.
The Team of JOSEF
KAUFMANN RACING was able to win the Driver Title of the Formula
Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championship in his debut season with Robin
Frijns. With this traditional title the Team added one more
remarkable performance to its outstanding history.
